Brief History about Ashwell Pharmacy

Ashwell Pharmacy has been established for more than 20 years. Having owned inner city pharmacies in the past I wanted to acquire a ‘typical English Village' pharmacy and bought Ashwell in April 2001. Year on year I have tried to enhance the pharmacy bringing it into the ‘new age' and ready for the new pharmacy contract. I had a ‘consultation area' built some five years ago and updated the frontage of the shop (see photo). I then totally replaced the floor and several sections within the pharmacy; every modification was done with the new image expected of pharmacy whilst trying to maintain the ‘traditional community pharmacy village feel'.

Then, year on year I have added on services I have provided; such as, smoking cessation, emergency hormonal contraception, supervised methadone consumption, weight management, blood pressure management, diabetes & cholesterol screening, medication use reviews (MURs) and intend to increase the services as time goes on.

I have had to engage in re-training my staff to become fully engaged in the dispensing process and OTC recommendations in order to ‘free up' my time to engage in the new services.

Perhaps the future will see me almost fully engaged in ADVANCED AND ENHANCED services whilst my staff looks after the OTC and dispensing side fully.
